Resonating Surprises
We were on a mission when we stopped into Olivia Brown’s studio earlier this month. We wanted to get a sneak peak of the five large paintings that she created specifically for a solo exhibition at the SOMA Residencies titled Ecstatic Resonance.

We brought our trusty blurry camera to keep things mysterious.
With paintings wider than eleven feet in length, these are the largest pieces of Olivia’s that we have ever encountered. Confronted with the scale we were immersed into spinning and osculating bits of color.

So much action takes place on the ground that the work surfaces hold materials.
Using her signature blend of FEV, Olivia has manipulated the material to create depth in the paintings, from softer layers in the back to vibrant bits on the surface.

Detail of Passion Dynamic
To see the finished paintings in person just stroll on down to 1045 Mission Street from now until July 31.
