2011 Year in Review (Part 2)

We are taking a moment to reflect on the past year and recap all the amazing events that made 2011 zip by in a blur. We have made it through half the year of art fairs, exhibitions, and artists and are ready to tackle the new artists, studio visits, and a new program.

If you missed Part 1 you can catch it here, otherwise keep reading…

JULY

One of DAVe Warnke's "Public Art" pieces in front of the gallery.

In July we turned the gallery, and part of Sutter Street, over to the “Whimsical, Weird, and Wonderful World of DAVe Warnke“. DAVe cut his teeth as an artist in the streets of San Francisco along with the other artists of the New Mission School. You can still find DAVe’s artwork on the streets of San Francisco and Oakland. In fact, right before the opening reception DAVe had placed a handful of his “Goody, Goody Gumdrop” paintings along Sutter Street just waiting for someone to take them home.

We also popped over to Kelly DeFayette’s studio way back in July in preparation for her solo exhibition next month.

AUGUST

New Hang Art artists sprinkled in with Lost Art Salon's artists.

For us August was all about new artists as we collaborated with Lost Art Salon to create a dialogue between our two brand new Hang Art artists, Peter Andrea and Gail Ragains, and their “lost” artists. We also brought on the artwork of Kirsten Tradowsky and David King later in the month. In true Hang Art fashion, the public response to these new artists and their artwork has been very welcoming.

SEPTEMBER

One of Phillip Hua's artworks in it's natural environment.

Back in August we stopped into Phillip Hua’s studio and snooped around looking at the different types of influences that played a factor in forming the core thesis of his September exhibition, “Entwined Excess”.  The show itself received attention from both the San Francisco Chronicle and the SF Weekly.

As always September had us finding the perfect artwork for our collectors home and office.

OCTOBER

A chilly First Thursday couldn't keep people away from our October exhibition.

October found us introducing yet another brand new San Francisco Bay Area artist to the world. This time we combined Katherine B. Young’s metal leafed seascape paintings with Liz Maxwell’s horizon based abstracts.

The month also saw us introducing a new extension to Hang Art in the form of Hang Art Projects.

NOVEMBER

We found a pumpkin that went well with Fain Hancocks paintings.

We had a very busy month in November with Fain Hancock’s knockout exhibition “What Remains” getting the month of too a great start. We visited over eight artist studios, brought on two new Hang Art artists with James Williams and Catherine Palmer, got a fancy new sign, and had a wonderful Thanksgiving. You can check out the full summary of November here.

DECEMBER

The place was packed

We really like the Christmas season so right before for our December First Thursday reception we had a catered cocktail party for all of our artists, staff, and collectors past and present. Everyone was feeling jolly and bright as we rolled right into the reception for Figure 8. Featuring the work of eight artists working with the figure, the exhibition was well received.

With just a couple of days to relax we were ready to jump right into 2012 and do it all again, plus bigger and better!

2012

So what does 2012 have in store for us?

We have a great line-up of exhibitions including solo shows by Kelly DeFayette, Peter Dimick and Addie Shevlin. We are participating in the LA Art Show as well as a couple other art fairs. Hang Art Projects artists are joining us at the art fairs as well as  rocking it all year long at 55 Second Street. We also have a brand new, blow-your-mind cool website in the works.

The rest will just have to be a surprise.
